IP powerhouse, Powell Gilbert LLP, has taken new premises at 85 Fleet Street
after outgrowing its space in the former Patent Office at 25 Southampton
Buildings in its first three years.
The firm, which was launched in March 2007 by five partners and five associates
from Bristows, has seen rapid growth and has more than tripled in size, now
comprising 24 fee-earners and eight support staff.
Powell Gilbert moves to new premises in the former home of Reuters on Monday
15 March and will occupy the entire 11,740 square feet on the third floor, allowing
room for continued growth and with pre-emption rights to further space in the
building in the future.
The building was designed by one of England’s greatest architects, Sir Edwin
Lutyens, in the 1930’s. Whilst the facades of the landmark building have been
carefully preserved the internal areas have been rebuilt to provide state of the art
office space. The offices will also benefit from high spec IT and audiovisual
facilities, befitting a technology law firm.
The architects who designed the fit out for Powell Gilbert are Morey Smith whose
other clients include Sony Music, Yahoo! and Blackstone Chambers.
Dr Penny Gilbert, one of the founding partners at Powell Gilbert said today,
“We are thrilled to be moving to a larger site with more space and state of the art
facilities. We‘re looking forward to working with our clients in our new offices,
fitted out in Powell Gilbert’s own style. The design has a contemporary feel yet
reflects the features of the 1930s building. It’s a credit to our excellent and hardworking
team that we are celebrating this move just as we reach our third
birthday.”
Tim Powell, another of the founding partners, commented:
“Although the former Patent Office provided a great location from which to launch
a new, IP-focused firm we are delighted, three years on, to be consolidating the
firm in its own long-term home as we continue to plan for the future growth of the
practice”.
