Powell Gilbert is excited to be supporting ex-Powell Gilbert associate Izzy Burnham and her teammates Laura, Emma and Natalia, together the Coxless Crew, in their attempt to be the first fours boat to row the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia.
The Coxless Crew will be rowing the 8,446 miles across the Pacific in a 29ft, 4 person, pink ocean rowing boat called Doris, each crew member rowing 2 hours on, 2 hours off for the entire journey. The row will launch in April 2015 from San Francisco, California, and finish in Cairns, Australia, after 5-6 months at sea. Stops will be made at Hawaii and Samoa to restock the boat with provisions, make any necessary repairs and speak with the media.
The crew aim to set 3 World Records: (1) first all female team to row the Pacific Ocean; (2) first team of 4 to row the Pacific Ocean; and (3) fastest Pacific Ocean row. As an all female crew, they are rowing in aid of 2 charities that support women facing challenging circumstances: Breast Cancer Care and Walking With The Wounded, who will use all funds they raise to set up a fund specifically for injured servicewomen.
It’s impressive to see that the crew have a number of high profile supporters of their row, including Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and the Transglobe Expedition Trust, and Chrissie Wellington, 4 times World Ironman Champion. As their patron, the team are proud to have the support of Kylie Minogue, who has beaten Breast Cancer herself and dealt with the battle on a global stage.
Following launch, it will be possible to read the crew’s updates from the Pacific and to follow their progress via a satellite tracking system on their website (www.coxlesscrew.com) on Facebook (www.facebook.com/crew.coxless) and on Twitter (@coxlesscrew).
We wish Izzy and the team the best of luck for their big adventure!

The crew are building public support through their #BuyAMile initiative. You can buy a mile (or more) of their journey and get your name written on the inspiration wall inside their cabin to travel the Pacific with them http://coxlesscrew.com/buy-a-mile/
