David Lancaster

David has experience in all aspects of contentious intellectual property law, including patents, trade marks, copyright, registered and unregistered designs, passing off and confidential information. He has a background in biochemistry and has particular experience in the life sciences sector. He also represents clients in the telecommunications sector, including in proceedings for determination of fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licence terms.

David has experience of handling multi-jurisdictional patent actions, EPO oppositions and arbitrations. He also has rights of audience in all courts and has represented clients as the advocate in the High Court, Patents County Court (now the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court), the UK IPO and before the Opposition Division of the European Patent Office.

David joined Powell Gilbert in May 2012 from the London office of Rouse. He trained and qualified as a barrister at Three New Square.

David is a member of AIPPI, CIPA, IPSoc (Chair) and is recommended in Who’s Who Legal: Life Sciences – Patent Litigation 2016 and 2017.
